TWIKE Troubleshooting
[This document is from the TWIKE Software floppy
containing TEST31s.exe.]
Electrical Problems
The following production defects in the TWIKES so far delivered have
contributed to operational disturbances. Knowing their cause facilitates
locating and correcting the errors.
1. Bad contact in the charge cable
Symptoms:
Charging procedure is repeatedly interrupted with the message "CHARGE
INTERRUPTED" in the text display. (The message is only deleted when the
static frequency changer (inverter/controller) is disconnected, or you
change to the driving mode, or if the charge procedure is continued after
a short interruption.) The green LED "FWD" indicator flickers or flashes
irregularly (a regular flashing means it is charging in the normal reduced
current mode).
Therapy:
Check AC outlet, charge cable, or any intermediate adaptors for loose
connections, or replace.
2. Bad contact in the brake light switch
Symptoms:
Stoplight stays on even when brake is not operated. TWIKE operates
only at 3 km/hr and "hums".
Therapy:
Contacts in the front brake light switch (on the left control handle)
are loose and need crimping with flat nosed pliers. Or replace switch.
3. Bad contact in the display
Symptoms:
Confused data in the display, only black rectangles show, or display
is dark. Static frequency changer (inverter/controller) starts suddenly
and erratically. Lightly touching left side of display causes disturbances.
Therapy:
Replace display (if knowledge of electronics is available, check for
loose connections and solder).
4. Bad contact in the Disconnect button (emergency
stop switch)
Symptoms:
Error F21 or F07 appear frequently and suddenly during charging. The
"FWD" LED flickers sometimes with vibrations.
Therapy:
Remove chain case cover and check connections at the switch.
5. Electrical system 3A safety fuse defective
Symptoms:
Resembles bad contact at Disconnect button (see above). No electrical
function.
Therapy:
Look for short circuit in wiring of left or right control handle.
Then replace fuse.
Note:
In no case should a fuse with a higher rating or a bridge be used.
The electronics could be seriously damaged.
6. Electrical system 15A safety fuse defective
Symptoms:
Lighting confused. Headlights on one side only. Parking lights, highbeams,
and turn signal indicators shine as soon as light switch is turned on.
Therapy:
Look for short circuit in the wiring of front and rear lighting, and
in windshield wiper. Then replace 15A fuse.
Caution:
The defroster is connected to 336 V (high voltage!) and separately
fused.
7. Horn/windshield wiper/turn signal switches defective
Symptoms:
The horn/windshield wiper/turn signals function erratically.
Therapy:
Carefully pull switches from control handle and short circuit with
a screwdriver. If the function is OK, replace switch. If not, check horn/windshield
wiper/turn signal contacts for looseness or corrosion. Spray with WD-40.
Caution:
Only the switches in the control handle can be pulled out, the switches
in the operating panel are firmly soldered.
